Walking The Carnforth area combines superb countryside with coastal landscape. Whether you want a gentle walk along a canal tow path or a challenging route, you will find it close by. Explore the fabulous countryside around the Lancaster canal (Download map and guide). For more ideas you can download the 'Walking for All' brochure which includes 9 local walks which showcase the diversity and beauty of the area. A walk across Morecambe sands is a must but crossing is only possible at low tides with the leadership of a proffesional guide. Please see the Morecambe bay walk guide for more information. Cycling The roads around here are perfect for cycling - quiet, beautiful scenery and not too hilly! like the Lancaster canal towpath for example. There are lots of circular bike routes in these guides below produced by Lancashie Celebrating Cycling. Cycling for All - 6 local and easy circular routes (7 - 15 miles) Cycling for All 2 - 8 local more challenging circular routes (20 - 34 miles) Cycle and See - 5 gorgeous circular routes (11 - 26 miles) between Kirby Lonsdale and Arnside or you can plan your own route. Note that if you want to cycle on certain sections of the Lancaster canal towpath you will need a cycle permit which is free of charge and can download from here. Bring your own bikes or you can hire them from Lakeland Cycles, (tel: 01524 735465) located 3 miles away at a price of £10 per day. Sunshine Cycle Hire will also hire bikes suitable for al ages and the site gives some details of some nice routes. You will find them on thesea front at Morecambe.
